Dear West Virginia Family + WV Food ER Community Members,

On behalf of the volunteer team, we want to thank you for your partnership over the past 9 months of this mutual aid project. We started as a Facebook group for people looking to get updates on school feeding plans after the executive order came to shut down schools on March 13th. Through donations, grant funding, and hundreds of generous volunteers, we were able to quickly grow into a small-scale mutual aid operation, which at its height helped distribute food and essential items in most counties throughout the state. As the pandemic went on, we’ve continued to do our best to help as many people as possible, even when limited by volunteer capacity and funding.

As newcomers to this work, we have learned a lot, and we plan to keep improving and building so that we can do what we do best as West Virginians – Help our neighbors when times get tough.

With our current grant wrapping up, we are pressing pause to assess our current capacity and challenges before seeking out additional funding.

Volunteers will be doing their best to update the website’s resource page, and we will continue to connect West Virginians via our Facebook group. Please continue to use the wonderful resources compiled by the United Way’s 2-1-1 service and check your local food pantries and Facebook for mobile food bank events. If you have already put in a request and did not receive help, as always please continue to seek out other resources like the ones listed above. Though we want to help everyone, we have always been limited in the size of our operation and volunteer staffing capacity.

An opportunity we would like to offer while we are doing our assessment is If you are interested in learning about or participating in food access issues on a state level during the upcoming legislative session (February-March 2021) or on your local level, please let us know by answering this survey:

Thank you again for being a part of this community and the #FoodForALL movement.

All the best,

Jenny, Liz + the WV Food ER Volunteer Team
